Avatar: Bending Battle
Water. Earth. Fire. Air.
Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Then, everything changed when they were recruited to a pixel art fighting game!
War ravages the Earth Kingdom. Together with your friend, choose a fighter from one of the four nations to battle and see which element is the best!
Controls
Player 1 controls: A to move left, D to move right, W to jump, S to attack, and Shift or F for your special.
Player 2 controls: Left arrow to move left, Right arrow to move right, Up arrow to jump, Down arrow to attack, and Option for your special.
To navigate the menu: each player uses their respective left and right controls to change character, and their respective up button to select the current character.
Alternatively, if you have a controller, player 1 can use the controller and player 2 can use the keyboard. In that cause, player one can use: the Stick/D pad to move, A to jump, X or ZR to attack, and Y or ZL for the special (Xbox controller) and player 2 can use: Left Arrow to move left, Right arrow to move right, Up arrow or Z to jump, X to attack, and C for the special
The UI shows each players' health as well as the charge on their special meter. The left is for player 1, the right is for player 2.
Movesets
Waterbender: normal attack is an arcing water projectile with splash damage dealing 1 damage. Special is bloodbending, allowing you to momentarily control the other player. Additionally, you can use the attack button to throw an ice shard projectile while bloodbending to deal 1 damage, but note that you will not be able to move while bloodbending as your movement controls will be controlling the other player. Bloodbending special charges very slowly.
Earthbender: normal attack requires you to be on the ground to perform. At first, it raises an earth shield if there is room for one in front of you. If there is currently an earth shield in front of you, you can press attack again to punch rock projectiles out of it dealing 1 damage. Special is a vertical ground pound dealing 2 damage. Special charges moderately fast, and each successful block with your earth shield increases special charge.
Firebender: normal attack is a fireball projectile dealing 1 damage, special is a horizontal lightning blast dealing 2 damage. Special charges moderately fast, and each successful hit with a fireball increases special charge.
Airbender: normal attack is a melee staff attack dealing 1 damage. Special allows you to use WASD/Controller stick (player 1) or Arrow keys (player 2) to fly around on your glider. The special does no damage but charges rapidly.

I know the controls and movesets seem complicated, but trust me, they will make more sense as you play. Also, if you do happen to have a controller, it is way easier for both players if player one uses it! I hope you can find someone to have fun playing this with!
This was originally made in a few days for my jam, the Adaptation Jam 2025 where the goal was to adapt a pre-existing piece of media in a video game. I hope to expand on it later with more stages based on different locations around the four nations, and maybe add some new fighters like a metalbender or even the Avatar.
Please note that this game is most definitely not based on the hit 2005 Nickelodeon animated show Avatar: The Last Airbender. I mean, what would give you that idea???
